From the Herbalist
Why Most of My Blends Lean Nervine
Most of the teas I make are built around nervines, the group of herbs traditionally used to support the nervous system. I chose that focus because of what I see in the people around me. So many of us run on a go-go-go mentality and never draw a line between work time and time to unwind. We are practiced at output and out of practice at stillness.
A cup of tea is a small, scheduled pause. Choosing the herbs, heating the water, waiting for the steep, and sitting with the cup all ask you to slow down for ten minutes. The blends are formulated around traditional herbal uses, then balanced until they taste good enough to reach for daily.
How the Teas Are Made
Organic or Wildcrafted Ingredients
The finished tea is not certified organic. Every herb in it is, or is wildcrafted, and the ingredient list on each product page tells you which.
Sustainably Sourced
Herbs come from Mountain Rose Herbs or another supplier I have vetted for growing and harvesting practices. If you have a question about where a specific herb came from, contact me and I will tell you.
Blended by Hand in Montana
Each batch is measured, mixed, and bagged by hand at our workshop in Montana. Batches stay small so herbs are not sitting in storage for long before they reach you.
Offerings Change with the Seasons
A few blends stay in the shop year round. Others follow the harvest and the time of year, so a blend you liked may be gone for a season and back the next.
Loose Leaf and Plastic-Free Bags
Most blends are loose leaf right now. Where a tea is offered in single-serve or teapot-sized bags, the bags are plastic-free, unbleached, and compostable, and more bagged options are coming in the seasons ahead.
Formulated by a Clinical Herbalist
Every recipe is written by Ivy Ham, a certified clinical herbalist. Each product page names the herbs and the traditional uses behind the choice.
Keeping Your Tea Fresh
Dried herbs lose aroma and color to four things: light, heat, moisture, and air. Cool, dry, dark, and airtight storage protects against all of them.
- Move loose leaf tea into an airtight jar or tin as soon as you open the bag, and keep it closed between uses.
- Store it in a cupboard or drawer away from the stove, the dishwasher, and any sunny window.
- Keep the jar away from the sink and never scoop with a wet spoon, since moisture is what lets mold start.
- Flowers and leaves fade faster than roots and seeds, so use flower-heavy blends first.
- Judge freshness by smell and color. When a blend has gone pale and the scent is faint, it is time for a new bag.
Tea Questions
Are the teas organic?
The finished blends are not certified organic. Every ingredient in them is either USDA certified organic or wildcrafted, and each product page lists which applies to each herb.
Where do the herbs come from?
Mountain Rose Herbs or another supplier vetted for sustainable growing and harvesting. Questions about the source of a specific herb are welcome through the contact page.
Are the teas loose leaf or in bags?
Most are loose leaf. Blends offered in bags come in single-serve or teapot-sized bags that are plastic-free, unbleached, and compostable. More bagged options are planned for the coming seasons.
Why is a blend I bought before no longer listed?
Offerings change with the seasons. Some blends stay year round and others rotate with the harvest, so check back or join the newsletter to hear when a blend returns.
How should I store herbal tea?
Cool, dry, dark, and airtight. A sealed jar in a cupboard away from the stove keeps whole herbs at their best.
