Products & Shop pages
Each product with a custom description, bullet points and individually edited, uniform product images (edited to have centered product over light grey background). Each product also has added categories, tags and specs so that customers can filter their search queries to find the right device for their needs.
Amazon Affiliate Links
Additionally, products that are not in stock can be flipped over to Amazon affiliate links, which also causes the front-end pricing information to be removed and adds a redirect link to “check price on amazon” instead of the normal “add to cart” button. Since ModemGuides inventory is subject to availability, this helps ensure that customers are always able to find the device they need, and ModemGuides receives a small commission for their referral from Amazon.
Reviews
Due to limitations placed on ModemGuides by their order fulfillment service and the Amazon affiliate program, they’ve chosen not to import reviews for their products from other retailers. However, they do have an integrated third-party app for customers to leave their own reviews directly on ModemGuides if they desire.
Searchable Tech Blog
ModemGuides also features a technical support blog, which has answers to common questions about modems, routers, WiFi and other internet-adjacent items. We added this blog as a way to save time on emails from repeat questions, but blogs are also a great way to boost SEO ranking. Search engines really like pages with lots of engaging text on them, that are updated frequently, so adding a blog can be really helpful for boosting your search rank.
Articles with SEO Keywords
ModemGuides has hired me for ongoing SEO services and to write most of their blog articles. Before creating an article for ModemGuides, I research relevant keywords that receive a higher volume of searches and based on those, try to write articles that are most needed. Most of ModemGuides’ traffic comes from these blog articles.
Search Performance & SEO
I have been working on ModemGuides over the course of several years. Previously to switching over to Shopify, we had this website on Wordpress, using the WooCommerce integration for ecommerce management. After building with Wordpress for several years, we moved over to Shopify this past year to help with load speeds and SEO.
As of right now, ModemGuides is still recovering from the velocity loss resulting from the move earlier this year (many of the links had to change to work with Shopify, and therefore the whole site needed to be reindexed by Google). I expect to see continued growth with this site as we add more content & optimize.
