Why I’m Unbothered About Not Having Health Insurance

I don’t have health insurance, and I don’t see that as risky. As you read, keep in mind that this is not a critique of others who have chosen differently than me and it is not a recommendation that you do the same as I am. I strongly believe that medical choices should be yours alone to make, with full informed consent and no coercion from doctors, government, employers or even my little blog articles.

How Did I Get Here?

When I turned 26 and lost access to my dad’s Blue Cross Blue Shield healthcare plan, I was faced with a choice that I still don’t regret making to this day. After shopping around and comparing the different plans, I chose to not get any insurance at all. 😅

By this point in my life I had already started to become awake to the long list of pitfalls of the American healthcare system. In my years of going to see a plethora of different western medical doctors and specialists, none of them have ever successfully fixed a single one of my health issues. It often felt impossible to get them to even do the bare minimum: listening for more than a few minutes, ordering appropriate tests, or staying focused on my digestive issues instead of spending over half of our brief 20‑minute visit promoting birth control and vaccines (something I’d asked them to stop doing repeatedly).

To me, it didn’t make sense to me to pay $$$$ into a system that has never provided any material benefit and has actually gaslit me on many occasions, saying that it’s “probably just in my head” because the few labs they did came back “normal”. I know I’m not alone in this, unfortunately.

Knowing what I know now, after healing myself without their help, I can say that these doctors were incompetent and also not invested in improving my health in any meaningful way, especially if helping me did not involve any of the pharmaceutical products they are incentivized to push. I’m actually thankful to have been put in this situation because it prompted me to learn the science of self-healing and stop outsourcing my health to others. Today, and for the past 5+ years, I haven’t seen any western medical doctors (except for the cool ones at Nirvana Hyperbaric Institute, love y’all if you’re reading this) and I’ve never been healthier!

What has never made sense to me is that health insurance does not cover holistic purchases that help people be healthier and prevent disease. It seems like preventative healthcare would be in their best interest. I’ve heard recently some plans have started to cover a few chiropractor visits per year, or maybe a gym membership, but these things alone are barely enough to move the needle when it comes to health, in my opinion.

The habits and therapies I rely on to stay well that are generally not covered by insurers include:

  • Vitamins & Supplements $$$

  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (only covered for certain conditions) $$$$

  • Photo-bio modulation therapy $$$

  • Massage therapy (some spendier plans may cover a few visits per year) $$$

  • Bloodwork and labs beyond the basic ones done at yearly checkups $$$

  • Medicinal herbs $

  • Home exercise equipment $$$

  • Organic, additive-free foods $$$

  • Infrared Sauna $$$$

  • Beach vacations $$$

  • Yoga and exercise classes $$

  • Acupuncture (some spendier plans may cover a few visits per year) $$$

I would rather invest my money into my own health using these items than pay for health insurance that I won’t even be able to use.

The money we would spend on health insurance stays in our account and we accrue interest on it, not some corporation. We are never at the mercy of an insurance executive’s prospective bonus to get our claim approved because it never left our account in the first place. If we have a necessary health expense, we use the money we would have put towards insurance over the years to cover it.

Ok, But What About Diagnostics?

I use an independent lab for all my blood tests, which doesn’t involve any doctors so there’s no gatekeeping BS. Some labs you mail in a sample, taken at home, others you can just make an appointment and tell them what blood tests you want done, and they will take your blood and mail it off to the labs for you. Appointments aren’t even needed at the one I go to here in Huntersville (Any Lab Test Now), and they email me my test results a few days later. Results are easy to understand because they highlight any values that fall outside of the “normal” range, which is what doctors generally require a whole appointment to do. My previous doctors office at OHSU usually wanted me to come in to be read my results, but amazingly, it turns out I can just read them off the PDF file and get the same info. 🤯

If you’re interested in a more DIY approach, or are wanting to check your physician’s work (which you should be doing since medical error is the third leading cause of death in the US), I highly recommend picking up these two books:

What About Emergencies?

Another argument I often see against not having insurance is what about emergencies? I work from home, and typically don’t leave the house much - generally like 1-2 times per week max. If I do leave the house, I’m generally traveling further than 30 minutes away.

Unless you pay for the top tier $$$$ health insurance plans, most insurance companies will want you to only visit certain “in-network” hospitals and health centers for care. Hypothetically, *if* I had health insurance, and during one of these outings I ended up needing emergency services, it is highly likely that I would be forced to visit an “out of network” hospital, which would not be covered by insurance. So, in addition to my monthly $$$ payment for health insurance, I would then also have to pay out of pocket for the care after my emergency out-of-network visit.

Plus, for people paying cash for their service, they often have discounts that drive the price down well below what insured people pay. You can also ask for an itemized bill and dispute anything on there that you didn’t receive or if the price seems inflated above market value.

What About if I’m in an Auto Accident?

Car insurance is legally required and covers emergency medical care for myself and others if anyone is injured in an accident. If we are ever injured in an auto accident, it will be covered by the car insurance of whoever is at fault. I obviously have car insurance.

What if I Had kids?

Before you read this section, I just want to remind you that I am writing this to give my perspective and I understand others may not be as self-sufficient as I am or perhaps you’d still like to have the peace of mind of having insurance, which is understandable. That said, for my family, we would probably remain uninsured.

Kids get sick, injured, etc all the time. I am trained in first aid, and in managing illness in children and adults with nutrition, vitamins and herbal remedies (many herbs contain the same constituents found in RX and OTC drugs). I have a proven track record of helping my family and my clients and their children with my knowledge. Why should I outsource that to someone who cares less than me and stands to gain from them remaining sick? The reality is, the western medicine approach to health is not working! We have the highest rate of chronic disease of any other developed nation despite spending the most on healthcare. I do my best to never interact with this corrupt system.

What About Prenatal Care?

I view pregnancy and birth as an aspect of life and not as medical events. We heavily over medicalize pregnancy and birth to the point mother's are scared AF from all the fear-mongering they experience at their doctors office. So much damage is done to mothers nervous systems by the surveillance-heavy and anxiety-promoting mindset we see with most prenatal providers, even licensed midwives. If we look at other mammals and how they behave when pregnant and through birth, it is completely different from our western medicine paradigm. We are mammals too, and we deserve better treatment.

I see so many stories online from mothers who have engaged with western medicine being told that if they “don’t do xyz, then your baby could die” and I just think that’s so messed up but also probably technically illegal since coercion actually violates our right to informed consent. Regardless of legality though, women should not be coerced into disregarding their instincts— they're there for a reason!

It is my opinion that birth is usually the safest when it is physiological, at home, undisturbed and unmedicated. Obviously there are exceptions to this idea, but if the pregnancy has progressed normally and the woman is in good spirits, I don't see any reason to medicalize the birth.

Some Birth/Pregnancy Stats:

I have a lot more to say on this topic, but I’ll leave it here for now. Likely I’ll be exploring this in a future article, so if this topic interests you, stay tuned by signing up for my newsletter.

Vaccines

If you’re not questioning at least some of the now more than 80 shots on the schedule that each child receives before they turn 18, you may be a victim of propaganda. The safety issues, and how they are rabidly pushed at every appointment without proper informed consent have contributed to my overall disenchantment with the western medical paradigm.

Just a few decades ago, we had only around a dozen vaccines on the schedule. In recent years, the industry has ballooned, adding so many new shots — none of which have undergone any placebo-controlled trials or been tested all together in one person. The FDA insert for each of these vaccines also states that they have not been tested to see if they impact fertility or cause cancer. Since vaccines, on the whole, have not been adequately tested against placebo, it is also not possible to definitively say based on those trials, whether or not vaccines cause autism.

I’ve really looked into this, read many many studies, court documents and even spent hours reading VAERS reports during the pandemic (Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System). I’ve also read about the 1986 vaccine injury act, which states that because vaccines are inherently unsafe due to the adjuvants, our government protects companies that produce them when people are injured or killed. You cannot sue a vaccine manufacturer, so people that have been injured have to go to a special government court where claims are rarely paid out.

Speaking of studies, our government has all the data they need to do a study comparing health outcomes between unvaccinated and vaccinated people. Since they already have the data, doing such a study would take just a few minutes. Doctors like Dr Paul Thomas who have conducted similar studies using the patients in their practices have been discredited, their article retracted by journals and have been attacked by the mainstream.

In college, I was on track to be a psychology major, and took several courses on study design, and the requirements for compelling, scientifically-valid research. I didn’t complete that degree, but I did learn how to spot badly-designed studies. At the time, I resented taking those courses because they required learning more math, my least favorite subject. Now, I feel fortunate to have had that experience because it allows me to read and analyze studies for myself, and not rely on others to interpret them for me.

Vaccine Ingredients

Another issue I have with vaccines is their ingredients. Many of these shots contain ingredients like heavy metals, Polysorbate 80, borax and formaldehyde that are used in the manufacturing process and are not able to be fully removed, or are added as a preservative agent. This is a huge issue, because not only are many of these ingredients known poisons to humans, but they are being injected instead of ingested. Our digestive tracts have a mechanism of filtering out toxic substances and excreting them. Injecting, on the other hand, does not have those same natural mechanisms.

Many of these ingredients are individually known to negatively impact fertility. As a woman nearing 30 years old, I know dozens of women in my circles who have been trying to have a baby for several years with no luck and can’t help but wonder why no studies are being done on this.

Are All the Vaccines on the Schedule Really Necessary?

Hep B for example is given to babies right after they are born. Hep B is a sexually transmitted disease that you get from unprotected sex or sharing drug needles. Mothers who give birth in the hospital are tested for this disease before giving birth, so why do all babies “need” this vaccine within minutes of coming earthside? Presumably most babies won’t come in contact with Hep B in their first weeks of life.

With COVID-19, children were the least affected compared to any other age group, and the people who died from this disease had, on average, 4+ comorbidities and were like 80+ years old. Yet, there is still a requirement that they remain up-to-date with their COVID shot to attend school (thankfully, this may be changing very soon). Recent studies are showing that some people are still producing spike protein from the mRNA platform over 700 days later. Japanese researchers recently released a study of their populations showing that the more shots a person gets, the more likely they are to pass away shortly thereafter. At some point I think it’s possible that these shots will have killed more people than the actual disease.

False History of Vaccines

I recently read the incredibly well-referenced book Dissolving Illusions: Disease, Vaccines, and The Forgotten History by by Suzanne Humphries MD, & Roman Bystrianyk (affiliate link) and was amazed to learn that viral diseases like measles, polio, whooping cough, typhus etc, were all eradicated (like over 95%) before vaccines were even being used. This was largely due to improvements in working conditions, sanitation and nutrition among the working class.

When these viral outbreaks swept through the population, people’s “terrain” was already extremely compromised. Exhausted by 14+ hour shifts in brutal conditions, they were starving, malnourished, and forced to live amid their own waste while drinking sewage‑tainted water. With no child‑labor protections, children as young as 4 worked alongside adults, and slaughterhouses bordered the slums, causing contaminated meat to rot and swarms of flies to spread infections. Indoor plumbing was nonexistent, so filth and disease thrived. Poverty was rampant, and when a poor person died, it took time for the family to save enough to pay to have them buried, adding to the hazardous living conditions as the bodies piled up inside homes.

Dr. Suzanne Humphries goes into far more detail in her book than I can say here, and includes medical and historical evidence, images of living conditions during this period and data showing that it was only after these terrain issues were corrected, but before vaccinations came on the scene, that health outcomes improved. The pharmaceutical-sponsored media narratives are wrong (or lying) and are misrepresenting history. Vaccines did not, and have never “saved” us from these diseases, which is illustrated by the fact that there are several studies detailed in Dr Humphries book where populations with 100% vaccination rate for measles still have measles infections. R

How’s it possible for viral outbreaks to happen from the vaccines themselves?

Well as you may remember from high school biology, viruses are super small, much smaller than a cell or a bacteria, and too small to see with a regular microscope (hence why there are no actual pictures of viruses on the internet).

Anyway, because they are so small, it’s impossible to isolate them, especially since they need to be grown on some kind of medium; usually animal cells like from monkey kidneys. After growing viruses on the animal cells and treating them with a chemical to deactivate them, It’s impossible to verify that they’re all deactivated, and that there are no other viruses in there from the animal cells used to grow them, especially on a mass scale. This is how we end up with viral outbreaks in fully vaccinated areas, and contamination with cancer-causing viruses like SV40 (peep my article from earlier this year about SV40).

Viruses for any given disease can be found in both healthy and sick people in similar concentrations. They cannot be isolated down to just a singular virus and tested to see if that single virus causes illness, so there is actually no definitively proof that viruses are the cause of disease.

Regardless of the narratives surrounding the vaccine debate, it is my opinion that the best way to prevent disease of any kind is to focus on nourishing your terrain so that you can withstand any pathogen. Healthy lifestyle, mindset, diet, etc all play a part in the resiliency of your terrain. Which, again, insurance companies should be funding if they really had interest in promoting the health of their clients.

Final Thoughts

I just want to reiterate that I am not shaming anyone who engages with western medicine, nor am I judging their choices. Many of my friends and family choose differently than me, and I still love them all. Also, for legal reasons this isn’t medical advice, I’m merely just sharing how my family handles healthcare/insurance. We all come from different walks of life and healthcare should not be approached with a one-size-fits-all mindset. I recognize that opting out of the western medical system is not a choice that is available to everyone, especially without careful planning and educating yourself.

Regardless of whether or not you choose to engage with this system, I think we need to stop putting western medicine on a pedestal and ignoring its many flaws while there are other, more effective options out there. Personally, I was only able to cure my chronic illnesses once I took full responsibility for my own health and stopped relying on someone else to do the work to figure it out for me.

Sending much love to all my readers! I hope you found this one interesting. Let me know if you'd ever consider ditching your insurance in the comments!
